Overview
ABOUT
As part of my Facebook Intern project, I designed and developed an iOS app called ArtDrop, a one stop shop for people to explore art for educational, collecting, and selling purposes. Users can discover and learn about their favorite works, collect art from artists and galleries all around the world, and sell pieces from their own collection — all accessibly from your own pocket.
Notable features include being able to place life-size pieces on a wall through AR technology, dynamic map views of where art is currently located across the world, and the most up to date information on artists and their works fetched through Artsy’s API.
Final Prototype
Demo of complete features shown to Facebook executives & recruiters
INTERACTIVE PROTOTYPE
IMPLEMENTATION
I. TOOLS & LIBRARIES
Objective C, Xcode, Github
Apple’s ARKit, MapKit, AF Networking
Parse for database, and Artsy’s API for data
II. HARDCODING
Because the app didn’t have any users at the time of this project, uploads were hardcoded for demo purposes
Summary
I really enjoyed bringing to life a product that shares and makes more accessible to others an interest close to my heart (as an Art History minor). It was very fulfilling challenging myself to build a mobile app from scratch, simultaneously both from a design and engineering standpoint—from backend and database all the way to user interface, branding, and experience.
Thank you so much to Nick Swift, my manager, and the rest of the Facebook Stories team for their continued support.
